Episode 120: Creme Maurice

A vanilla-flavored Black tea…didn’t I review this before? The Tea Lab’s Creme Maurice is a little different. Instead of full, whole leaves, this tea is a “broken leaf” grade tea, meaning that the tea has been torn or broken into much smaller pieces. The tea that you find in most supermarket tea bags is a broken leaf tea, so you’re probably more familiar with this grade of tea than you think!

Broken leaf teas infuse quickly and give you a more robust cup than higher grade loose leaf teas. Creme Maurice packs in a lot of vanilla flavor in a smooth, yet full-bodied cup of tea. I couldn’t find this to purchase on The Tea Lab’s website, but Silver Tips Tea has this same blend available for purchase.

Episode 128: Tibet Sunrise

Remember when I reviewed Creme Maurice? I also received another tea in this shipment to try out — Tibet Sunrise. This is a great blend of Ceylon black tea, orange peel, and thistle. You really don’t see enough thistle in tea blends.

Overall, I thought this was just okay. I tried brewing it at two different temperatures, added some cream, added some sugar and…it was still just okay. You know what stood out though? The thistle! It adds an interestingly spicy note to this tea which contrasts well off the orange and black tea.

The Tea Lab doesn’t sell this online, but you can pick up this blend at T Salon. Let me know what you think about it!
