Episode 013: Organic Chocolate/Mint Rooibos Tea Blend

This blend from ESP Emporium is weird. It’s supposed to be a chocolate/mint rooibos blend, but you really don’t taste chocolate or mint in the resulting brew!

Rooibos is the base, which is good for a flavored blend like this. But you really taste the anise more than anything else. The mint that is in this blend is overshadowed completely by this. For some reason, the description on the website says there’s hints of vanilla and coconut. Are we tasting the same tea?

Episode 035: Pomander

Today I’m sampling another of Handmade Tea’s older blends — Pomander. This is a very aromatic blend that includes whole cloves, star anise pods, and gunpowder black tea.

These three ingredients come together to produce a very dark liquor with a smoky, full-bodied taste. If you find it too bitter, try adding a splash of almond milk! Like other Handmade Tea blends, this can easily be assembled using ingredients from most upscale supermarkets like Whole Foods.

Episode 054: Spicier Chai

Winter is still wreaking havoc on us all, so I needed a good spicy tea to wake me up and keep me warm. Enter Zoomdweebie’s Spicier Chai.

Overall, it’s not bad! It’s a step above a regular chai blend that you may find, and the extra spice comes in the form of red pepper flakes. It’s a lot like Zoomdweebie’s Mayan Chocolate Chai, so if you’re not a big chocolate fan but love a strong chai blend, take this tea for a spin!

Episode 079: Extra Bold Masala Chai

Zoomdweebie’s Extra Bold Masala Chai is about as authentic as you can get without traveling to India yourself. They use RadioactiviTEA as the base (CTC Assam) along with traditional chai spices which have been grinded to release their flavor and oils.

The result is a STRONG cup of tea that will not only wake you up, but warm you up too! The maltiness of the Assam melds perfectly with these ground spices. Add a little bit of milk to cut down on bitterness and you’re in heaven.

Episode 081: CocoCaramel Sea Salt

You know I’m not the biggest fan of most chocolate teas, so I approached Teavana’s CocoCaramel Sea Salt with a bit of hesitation. But you know what? It’s not too bad!

The blend is chocolatey, but not watery or too thick. There’s just the right touch of sea salt, with some added sweetness from the honeybush (although you do taste it near the back of the sip). I don’t think this is a tea I’d drink very often, but it would make for a nice dessert tea.
