Episode 269: Valerian Dream

Rishi Tea mentions that their Valerian Dream blend is “intriguing”…which is pretty much spot on. This is an varied blend of ingredients — cardamom, fennel, licorice, strawberries, spearmint, rose petals, orange, and valerian root.

This tea…I’m trying to pinpoint the flavor. You’ve got a lot of strong flavors here, and the licorice gives a natural sweetness. It reminds me a lot of ESP Emporium’s Fasting Tea, but not as savory.

I will say this — it did help me relax.

Episode 275: Good Morning Energy

Black tea on its own in the mornings can be pretty bitter, but Tea Drift has found a way to fix that — cover it up with a bunch of aromatics! That’s what this Good Morning Energy blend feels like to me. Black tea in a bouquet of lavender, rosemary, bergamot, and rose.

The taste is sweet. The smell is almost medicinal. But I think for all these inclusions, I didn’t actually get that buzz I get from black tea. (Doesn’t lavender usually calm you down?) It’s not a bad tea blend, but I just don’t know if I’d have this in the morning instead of a cup of something stronger.

Episode 284: Immortalitea

Can you believe it took 284 episodes to finally run across a pun like this in a tea blend’s name? Tea Drift’s Immortalitea is a savory blend of rosemary and sage along with green tea, rose, lemon, and safflower. And if you’re familiar with the aromas of sage and rosemary, then you know exactly how medicinal this blend smells.

Taste-wise, it’s not too bad. The rose, sage, and rosemary come together very harmoniously and give a good flavor to the cup. I didn’t really taste tea in this blend at all!

Episode 294: Three Roots

Numi Organic Tea’s Three Roots is part of their turmeric tea line. The “three roots” here are ginger, licorice and — wait for it — turmeric! There’s also rose in here to tie everything together.

It’s a nice mellow tea. The dry bag smells strongly of ginger and turmeric, and those flavors are somewhat prominent in the final brew, but not in an overwhelming way. If you’re suffering from heartburn or indigestion, this tea is just what you need!

Episode 312: Wild Sweet Orange

I haven’t had any offerings from Tazo in a while, but this Wild Sweet Orange caught my eye because it was one of my favorite blends before they became part of Starbucks. This is a herbal tea blend of range peel, ginger, peppermint, and more.

It’s not exactly how I remember it, but it still has a nice, sharp orange flavor. It reminds me a bit of Just Add Honey’s Sweet Tart, but more on the sweet end. Probably better to have this iced instead of hot, but your mileage may vary.
