Episode 066: Fasting Tea

Ah, another interesting blend from ESP Emporium — this time, it’s their Ayurvedic Fasting Herb Tea Blend (or Fasting Tea for short). As you can see from the photo here, there’s an eclectic mix of ingredients going on in this blend.

These all blend together to make an oddly tangy cup of tea. Not savory…tangy. It might be the mix of chamomile and black pepper, but there’s an odd taste to this blend. It’s meant to “support you in times of moderation”, but I think I’ll just stick to plain ol’ water.

I will say this — it did make me lose my appetite.

Episode 098: Youthberry/Wild Orange Blossom

Teavana really loves these fruity tea blends, and Youthberry/Wild Orange Blossom is no exception. I’ve reviewed Youthberry before, so I was interested to see what Wild Orange Blossom would bring in terms of a flavor profile (besides orange, duh).

It’s very floral and sweet, and that’s not just because of the addition of rock sugar. I did pick up a bit of a sour, tart aftertaste (maybe from that big hunk of orange slice), but I imagine this would be just as good hot as it would be iced. Give it a try!

Episode 117: Strawberry Lemonade

Teavana…you befuddle me sometimes. This strawberry lemonade blend, while tasty, also seems wholly unnecessary. Strawberry lemonade ain’t rocket science — strawberries plus lemons plus water plus sweetener. BAM! Done. No artificial flavors either.

So what makes this blend so special? Maybe it’s the addition of rosehips and lime. Maybe it’s the sunflower petals. Who knows? But I figure if you’ve got access to buy this at $7/2 oz., you can just go to the grocery store and pick up the actual ingredients. Your mileage may vary.

Episode 144: White Eternal Spring

Today’s tea selection is nice and light — it’s Adagio Teas’ White Eternal Spring. This white tea blend has a lot of flavors competing for attention: apple, blueberry, cranberry, hibiscus, mango, pineapple, and rose hips and rose petals.

Even with all that going on, I found the flavor to be crisp and fruity. The hibiscus and rose give a nice floral juiciness to the blend that complements the white tea without overpowering it. It’s great hot, but I’d suggest trying it iced also. Yum!

Episode 153: Country Peach Passion

Of all the big box supermarket brand teas out there, I can’t believe I haven’t stumbled across a Celestial Seasonings tea yet. Well, time to fix that! Today, I’m trying Country Peach Passion from their herbal tea line.

I will say this — they really nailed that fresh peach taste in this blend, including the tartness from a slightly unripe peach. There is a bit of a sour, soapy aftertaste, but I found that it’s lessened a lot when you drink it iced rather than hot. You can probably find this in most grocery stores, so give it a try and let me know what you think!
