Episode 011: Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha

Genmaicha (also known as brown rice tea, tea of Genmai, popcorn tea, or the people’s tea) has an interesting history. Typically, genmaicha consists of bancha and roasted brown rice. Sometimes these grains pop, and the result looks like popcorn. The resulting brew is a nutty and smooth cup of tea that’s great all year long.

This blend includes mini marshmallows, which are a really nice complement to the genmaicha. It really does taste like a marshmallow treat! (Hey, that cereal company ain’t paying me for free promo.)

Episode 087: Root Beer Float Iced Tea

More iced tea! I’m switching it up now that we’re ending out March and nearly a quarter of the year has passed. (Where has the time gone?) Today, I’m having Zoomdweebie’s Root Beer Float iced tea.

I absolutely adore this tea, and it’s going to have to be in my regular staple of summer brews. Every ingredient shines here — the smooth, rich black tea, the spicy sweet complexity of the root beer, and the creaminess imparted by the marshmallow root. It’s more of a “soda” type of tea, but I’m not mad at that. It’s definitely more hydrating!

Episode 132: Christmas Cookie White Tea

It’s beginning to look a lot like…a hot summer. (What, did you think I’d say Christmas? This is one of the hottest Mays on record!) Normally I’d brew up a big pitcher of iced tea — and I still might — but today I decided to try Zoomdweebie’s Christmas Cookie White Tea.

This brew smells strongly of those vanilla spice cookies that you get around the holidays, and it lends itself really well to the delicate white tea base. Next experiment: try this tea with some actual Christmas cookies!

Episode 217: Graveyard Mist

52Teas is back! (Although if you’ve listened to this show from the beginning, they’ve never really left.) They’re back in the land of the living with this aptly named blend — Graveyard Mist. The blend is a mix of two green teas (sencha, lu shan yun wu), marshmallow root, and spearmint.

The taste is minty, marshmallow-y, but mellow. The spearmint really stands out the most here, with the marshmallow providing a nice creamy note. Even hot, it’s a very cooling tea. It’s an interesting mix of flavors, and that’s something that’s been 52Teas’ signature from the very beginning. Check the TYOT Instagram page for more teas from 52Teas!
