Episode 141: Pu’erh Tahiti

Earlier this week, I was on a pu’erh high. And now…it’s a pu’erh low. (A poor low?) Today, it’s Adagio Teas’ Pu’erh Tahiti — a blend of pu’erh with apple, coconut, mango, marigold petals, and papaya.

Yeah…I don’t like this. Pu’erh really goes with earthy flavors, and the sweet inclusions here make for a slightly musty smelling and tasting cup of tea. Even the dry blend smells a little bit like a sweaty sock. Blech!

Episode 144: White Eternal Spring

Today’s tea selection is nice and light — it’s Adagio Teas’ White Eternal Spring. This white tea blend has a lot of flavors competing for attention: apple, blueberry, cranberry, hibiscus, mango, pineapple, and rose hips and rose petals.

Even with all that going on, I found the flavor to be crisp and fruity. The hibiscus and rose give a nice floral juiciness to the blend that complements the white tea without overpowering it. It’s great hot, but I’d suggest trying it iced also. Yum!

Episode 154: Caribbean Calypso Maté

Ayyyy mon! I think this may be one of the last Teavana blends in my collection! (I can hear you rejoicing.) This is a really tasty blend I had squirreled away called Caribbean Calypso Maté — a blend of maté, lemongrass, coconut, mango, pineapple, and ginger.

The maté gives a bit of vegetal sweetness that’s accented by the lemongrass, and the coconut and other fruits meld together into a light and flavorful cup of tea. Refreshing and energizing! Teavana doesn’t sell this blend anymore, but the Piña Colada Mango Maté from Totalitea looks like a good substitute.

Episode 222: Honest Tea Mango White Tea

Honest Tea was kind enough to send me a six pack of teas to review for the show, so let’s keep this iced tea streak going! First up, I’m trying their Mango White Tea which includes mango puree, cane sugar, and agave.

It’s really crisp, and the mango is a nice complement to the lightly sweetened tea. Don’t expect to be bowled over with mango flavor here — it is just a tad sweet, after all — but it’s definitely a nice change of pace.

Episode 247: Mango Vanilla Green Tea

Let’s keep this green tea train going! Next up is a tea blend I mixed up over at Design A Tea — mango vanilla. Based on what’s in the supplied teabag here, there’s green tea, calendula petals, and some bits of candied mango.

Overall, the vanilla taste is strong throughout this blend. It’s nice and toasty when hot, and deepens into a cream flavor when iced. But what’s missing here is the mango! There’s just a faint whisper of this in the background. That’s not a dealbreaker, but if you’ve got some candied mango bits lying around, chuck those in while brewing to amp up the flavor.
