Episode 027: Lemondrop Sencha

Spoiler alert! I love lemon (especially lemon desserts). So I was very excited to try this lemondrop sencha from Just Add Honey. They’ve mixed premium grade sencha with lemongrass, lemon myrtle, and marigold petals. It’s a good blend, but not great. I wanted more lemon flavor! MOAR!

It doesn’t look like Just Add Honey sells this blend anymore, but the lemondrop sencha from The Tea Guys looks pretty close to it.

Episode 036: Raspberry Riot Lemon Maté

I generally like my matés pretty plain (Samurai Chai Maté is an exception), but this raspberry riot lemon maté blend from Teavana is pretty fantastic.

Green maté is mixed with raspberries, hibiscus, big pieces of apple, and lots of rose flavors to create a pretty satisfying cup of tea. The raspberry and fruit flavors are the star here, but you also get the kick that comes with a proper maté. It’s the best of both worlds!

Episode 047: Maté Limón Chai

The Tea Spot‘s maté limón chai is an odd bird of a blend. They start with some really great quality yerba maté, add lemongrass, lemon oil, and lemon myrtle for the limón, along with traditional chai spice. The result is…weird.

It’s an oddly dark brew for a green maté, and when hot, the chai spices overwhelm everything else. More of the limón flavor comes through as it cools, but overall, it’s a forgettable cup of tea. Excellent packaging though!

The Tea Spot no longer sells this particular blend, and I couldn’t find a suitable replacement blend. Can’t win ’em all.

Episode 061: Maté Lemon Blast

This maté lemon blast blend from Teavana is the perfect balance of bright lemon flavor and earthy, vegetal maté. It’s great hot, FANTASTIC iced, and suitable enough for daily drinking.

This is one of the first maté blends I’ve ever tried, and it remains a favorite even though Teavana no longer sells this. (Grr!) The Green Teahouse’s Maté Lemongrass is a suitable replica. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Episode 066: Fasting Tea

Ah, another interesting blend from ESP Emporium — this time, it’s their Ayurvedic Fasting Herb Tea Blend (or Fasting Tea for short). As you can see from the photo here, there’s an eclectic mix of ingredients going on in this blend.

These all blend together to make an oddly tangy cup of tea. Not savory…tangy. It might be the mix of chamomile and black pepper, but there’s an odd taste to this blend. It’s meant to “support you in times of moderation”, but I think I’ll just stick to plain ol’ water.

I will say this — it did make me lose my appetite.
