Episode 067: Good Night

Good Night is another blend from Just Add Honey, and the name pretty much sums up what it’s meant to do — put you to sleep. The blend of chamomile, lemongrass, and lavender together work really well to make you relax.

It’s not a bad tea, but it’s not overwhelmingly great either. The addition of lemon peel helps add a bit of zing to the cup, but if you need something to help you settle down, you could do better. (It’s also a bit on the messy side thanks to the chamomile.)

Episode 073: Lemon Drop Cooler

Zoomdweebie’s Lemon Drop Cooler is like an all-in-one Uptown (also known as an Arnold Palmer). This honeybush blend is packed with lemon flavor — lemon peel, lemon verbena, lemon balm, lemongrass, and lemon myrtle. That’s a whole lotta lemon.

The flavor really shines when this tea is iced. Not that it’s bad hot, mind you! Give it a try both ways and see what you like!

Episode 075: Sakura Allure

I do love cherries — namesake notwithstanding — so I had to try Teavana’s Sakura Allure. This is another one of their blends with a ton of additions, including bamboo and cactus. Luckily, most of those flavors don’t really float to the surface — green tea and cherry are the stars here.

It’s a pleasant tea, but the sour aftertaste lingers a bit longer than I’d like. Maybe it’s the cranberry and hibiscus, but it tastes like a lighter version of Tazo Passion. I imagine this would be really great iced!

Episode 157: Tomato Mint

Numi Organic Tea has a line of savory teas in a number of different vegetable flavors. I picked up a sampler box, and this was the luck of the draw — Tomato Mint. The ingredients sound like they would make a really nice soup — tomato, mint, cinammon, lemon peel, onion, and allspice.

I’ll just be blunt — I hate this…for drinking as a tea. It’s soup! Well, it’s more of a fat-free vegetable consomm√©. There is tea in here — decaf black tea — but you really don’t taste it at all. I would love to see this as a loose leaf blend with some lapsang souchong to add a bit of a smoky aroma and finish. Overall, it’s not bad, but it’s very one note.
