Episode 103: Sweet Tart

I do like a good citrus-y tea, and Just Add Honey’s Sweet Tart definitely delivers it. This herbal blend is a mix of apple, citrus peel, and hibiscus. I think this blend is a copy of Teavana’s discontinued Tarocco Ruby Orange, and it turns out I have both of these teas in my collection! Tea collector problems.

If you like the taste of blood orange, then this tea’s right up your alley. You get that complex sweetness and tartness, and the hibiscus adds a nice floral note. This would definitely make a killer iced tea and a great mixer with some triple sec. Summer’s coming up, so why not give it a shot?

Episode 110: Chocolate Delight

Now y’all know I’m not a huge fan of chocolate teas, so I wasn’t really sure if I’d enjoy Just Add Honey’s Chocolate Delight. But there’s a secret ingredient in this blend that completely won me over — barley!

It sounds weird, but the barley adds a starchy, malty quality which elevates this chocolate tea to something more decadent and substantial. Add a bit of milk to really bring everything together! Delicious!

Episode 130: Green Caramel

Green tea and caramel? I was a little unsure about trying this out, but Just Add Honey’s Green Caramel has a nice smooth flavor with a good hearty base — genmaicha!

Yes, it’s the genmaicha that really makes this blend a star. The toastiness plays very well with the caramel and produces a pretty satisfying cup of tea. This tea would be best served warm (around 160-180 degrees), so drink it quick!

Episode 145: Wild Blueberry

I’m not quite sure what to make of Just Add Honey’s Wild Blueberry tea. On first glance, the blend sounds like a winner: green tea, white tea and whole dried blueberries.

The brew, however, is a different story. Don’t get me wrong — the blueberry flavor is there. But the lingering taste after each sip reminded me of mustard. Like, French’s yellow mustard. Your mileage may vary, but I’m not a fan of this blueberry blend.

Episode 164: Chamomile Fruit

Oh joy…another chamomile. This blend from Just Add Honey blends together the plain Jane of herbal teas with lemon myrtle, honeybush, citrus peel, lemongrass, licorice root, and stevia leaf.

It sounds like a lot of inclusions, but they all come together to make a pretty pleasant cup of tea. The honeybush and citrus cuts through the usual apple honeyed sweetness of chamomile, and the licorice root gives an interesting aftertaste. I like it!
