Episode 018: Toasted Nut Brulee

Teavana’s tea blends can be really hit or miss. This toasted nut brulee blend is a mix of oolong and rooibos along with a kitchen sink of other ingredients like coconut, ginger, and pineapple.

The resulting brew is nutty and spicy and oddly creamy. All the flavors really don’t come together in a very good way, but it’s more palatable iced than hot. If you’re allergic to nuts, you definitely should stay away from this.

Episode 026: My Morning Maté

Two Teavana teas in a row! (Bear with me — I’m trying to add some variety in here.) Chocolate was on my mind this morning, so I brewed up a cup of Teavana’s My Morning Maté.

This blend is a mix of roasted maté and rooibos along with a big punch of chocolate in the form of cocoa kernels, chocolate, chips, and carob bits. The result is a great full-bodied cup that’s perfect for kickstarting you in the morning. If you’re trying to wean yourself off of coffee, give this blend a shot! I think you’ll like it!

Episode 156: Pu’erh Hazelberry

Adagio Teas’ Pu’erh Hazelberry has all the ingredients of a really decadent tea blend — deep earthy pu’erh, strawberries, and cocoa nibs (with some hazelnut and creme flavors to boot). Even the smell is rich and nutty with some juicy notes from the strawberry.

However…drinking this is another story. The pu’erh is musty and bland, with the other flavors not doing much else to elevate the taste. How can a tea that smells so good taste so bad? Nope, nope, NOPE.

Episode 323: Kava Stress Relief

Some tea vendors create blends just for great tasting tea. Yogi Tea takes a more holistic approach to their blends; each blend is specially created to aid or fortify the body. Such is the case with their Kava Stress Relief. This ayurvedic medley of herbs and spices is meant to ease tension and promote relaxation. (And yet, the tea comes with a warning that’s anything but relaxing.)

Health benefits aside, this tea tastes…weird. It’s kinda like a Tootsie Roll wrapped in a Red Hot with a bitter aftertaste. But you know what though? THIS WORKS. I definitely felt more relaxed and at ease almost immediately after drinking it. Your mileage may vary.
