Episode 011: Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha

Genmaicha (also known as brown rice tea, tea of Genmai, popcorn tea, or the people’s tea) has an interesting history. Typically, genmaicha consists of bancha and roasted brown rice. Sometimes these grains pop, and the result looks like popcorn. The resulting brew is a nutty and smooth cup of tea that’s great all year long.

This blend includes mini marshmallows, which are a really nice complement to the genmaicha. It really does taste like a marshmallow treat! (Hey, that cereal company ain’t paying me for free promo.)

Episode 130: Green Caramel

Green tea and caramel? I was a little unsure about trying this out, but Just Add Honey’s Green Caramel has a nice smooth flavor with a good hearty base — genmaicha!

Yes, it’s the genmaicha that really makes this blend a star. The toastiness plays very well with the caramel and produces a pretty satisfying cup of tea. This tea would be best served warm (around 160-180 degrees), so drink it quick!

Episode 225: Gingerbread House Genmaicha

Christmas in August? No, I’m not just talking about the bevy of blends I’ve gotten in the mail lately; I’m talking about this holiday-spiced Gingerbread House Genmaicha blend from Zoomdweebie’s. Warm and toasty genmaicha is blended with marshmallow root, orange peel, and peppermint. (And gingerbread, of course.)

The gingerbread taste isn’t super strong, but it melds perfectly with the genmaicha to give you that “baked goods” taste. There’s also a nice hint of marshmallow and orange as an aftertaste. Very festive!
