Episode 159: Maharaja Chai Oolong

Remember when I reviewed the Maharaja Chai/Samurai Chai Maté blend a while ago? Turns out I had a bag of Maharaja Chai Oolong in the back of tea collection. Let’s give it a try, shall we?

It’s…decent. It’s very heavy on the spices — so much so that the oolong is drowned out by the strength of the cinnamon/clove/cardamom/star anise combination. I can see why this would be blended with Samurai Chai Maté, but I’d rather have that than this. Your mileage may vary.

Episode 183: Wild Berry Zinger

I’ll level with you — I’m getting a little tired of the overabundance of hibiscus in herbal teas. Specifically, I’m tired of the overabundance of hibiscus in this herbal tea — Celestial Seasonings’ Wild Berry Zinger.

Aside from the hibiscus flavor, the only thing that stands out is the sour, tangy orange aftertaste when hot. It really doesn’t taste too far off from Pomegranate Pizzazz. Or Tazo Passion. I will say this — it makes for a pretty tasty iced tea. So if you do pick this up, iced is the way to go.

Episode 202: Orange and Spice

Bigelow’s Orange and Spice herbal tea is probably one of their better blends (even if it is a bit generic). Rose hips and hibiscus help support the tangy orange peel in this blend, and the roasted chicory punches up the “spices” (which I think is just cinnamon).

As a hot tea, it’s not that remarkable. The orange flavor is waxy and dull, and the chicory and cinnamon give a bitter aftertaste. But this blend shines as an iced tea. The orange is more tart and juicy, and the spices give a nice complement to that. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Episode 214: Black Cherry Berry

I’m on the hunt now for a really good cherry-flavored tea. The varieties I’ve tried in the past here on the show have been hit or miss (mostly miss), but now we have a new challenger — Celestial Seasonings’ Black Cherry Berry. This herbal blend contains natural black cherry flavor along with hibiscus and rosehips.

Out of the Celestial Seasonings’ offerings I’ve tried so far, this one is probably the best out of the bunch! The hibiscus adds a nice tartness which accents the cherry flavor perfectly. If you like a nice tart tea, try this out!

Episode 238: Raspberry Zinger

Looks like I’ve reached the last tea in my Celestial Seasonings sample pack — Raspberry Zinger. This herbal tea is a lively blend of hibiscus, rosehips, chicory, and of course raspberries. Let’s give it a try!

I’m not really getting any “zing” from this blend — if anything, it tastes like Tropical Punch Kool-Aid! It’s a very juicy and flavorful tea — don’t get me wrong. But the tartness of raspberries is faint. This is really just some hibiscus and rosehips tea with a splash of raspberry. It is great as an iced tea, so maybe try it that way instead.
