Episode 066: Fasting Tea

Ah, another interesting blend from ESP Emporium — this time, it’s their Ayurvedic Fasting Herb Tea Blend (or Fasting Tea for short). As you can see from the photo here, there’s an eclectic mix of ingredients going on in this blend.

These all blend together to make an oddly tangy cup of tea. Not savory…tangy. It might be the mix of chamomile and black pepper, but there’s an odd taste to this blend. It’s meant to “support you in times of moderation”, but I think I’ll just stick to plain ol’ water.

I will say this — it did make me lose my appetite.

Episode 079: Extra Bold Masala Chai

Zoomdweebie’s Extra Bold Masala Chai is about as authentic as you can get without traveling to India yourself. They use RadioactiviTEA as the base (CTC Assam) along with traditional chai spices which have been grinded to release their flavor and oils.

The result is a STRONG cup of tea that will not only wake you up, but warm you up too! The maltiness of the Assam melds perfectly with these ground spices. Add a little bit of milk to cut down on bitterness and you’re in heaven.

Episode 094: Maharaja Chai/Samurai Chai Maté

Teavana sometimes sends out these sample packs that include a mixture of two tea blends and rock sugar. Are these blends better than the sum of their parts? Let’s find out with this Maharaja Chai/Samurai Chai Maté blend!

These two blends have a lot of the same ingredients, but Maharaja Chai brings oolong and chicory to this mix. The overall result tastes like a muted Samurai Chai Maté. For the price, you would probably do better just buying twice as much Samurai Chai Maté.

Episode 118: Cardamom Pu’erh

I had my first true experience with cardamom when I was in college. A good friend of mine turned me on to Indian food and cardamom lassis, and it’s been one of my favorite flavors since then. Will Numi Organic Tea’s cardamom pu’erh bring it? Let’s find out!

This blend definitely has the cardamom smell, but the flavor’s a bit lackluster when it’s hot. The pu’erh doesn’t really shine through like I hoped it would, although I could imagine this being a pretty complex brew if you have it iced. And because there are only two ingredients in this blend, you can try your hand at making it yourself!
