cacao nibs – The Year of Tea

Episode 179: Flaming Chocolate Maté

I haven’t had a roasted yerba maté in quite a while, so I dug through my collection and picked out this old chestnut from Zoomdweebie’s — Flaming Chocolate Maté. While I’m not usually one for chocolate teas, the mix of roasted yerba maté, cacao nibs, and cayenne pepper intrigued me.

If you like a sweet and spicy tea, this one is right up your alley! It’s well-balanced and not too hot, but if you’re looking for a comparable taste without the heat, check out Teavana’s My Morning Maté. (And then you can add cayenne pepper yourself to your liking!)

Episode 239: Chocolate Bacon

This must be the week of savory teas! On deck for today is a chocolate bacon tea blend from Zoomdweebie’s. Black tea, cacao nibs, and bacon bits. They’re not real bacon bits, but they taste pretty similar. (Yes, I checked!)

The chocolate flavor in the tea is subdued, but the bacon? I don’t know if it’s just the pack that I have, but it almost tastes…alcoholic. I mean, that’s not a bad thing — hello, hot toddies! — but I wanted more of a bacon flavor.

Zoomdweebie’s no longer sells this, but Adagio Tea’s Chocolate Covered Bacon looks like a good substitute.
