Episode 095: Almond Happiness

Almond Joy is my favorite candy bar. There’s something about that delicious mix of dark chocolate and coconut that I’ve loved since I was a kid. So I was really happy to find a similar thing in tea form in Zoomdweebie’s Almond Happiness.

However, it didn’t feel like Zoomdweebie’s really took those flavors far enough for me. It’s a great black tea with hints of coconut and chocolate, but it’s no Almond Joy in a cup. It’s still pleasant though. Try adding some almond milk to punch up the almond flavor!

Episode 125: Beautiful Light

I’m really enjoying this unique blend from Design A Tea titled Beautiful Light. This custom blend is a mix of rooibos, vanilla, almond, ginger, and calendula petals. It’s a bagged tea, per se, but it’s actually loose leaf tea in a handy T-Sac.

This was a really enjoyable cup of tea! Lots of flavor in every sip, although the vanilla did sort of overpower the ginger and gave more of a caramel taste to the cup. I would’ve liked a bit more of a ginger punch. This particular custom blend is not for sale, but Hibiscus Healing has a ginger vanilla rooibos blend that looks like a good substitute.

Episode 126: Almond Oolong

I knew this one would be a winner before I even opened the bag to brew it up. Remember the almond milk iced tea I reviewed before? This is like its high class counterpart!

Mellow Taiwanese oolong is paired up with almond flavoring to create a marzipan-scented cup of tea that’s great for breakfast or dessert. Adagio Teas recommends brewing this at boiling, but I’d recommend brewing it at around 195 degrees so you don’t end up with a bitter cup.

Episode 132: Christmas Cookie White Tea

It’s beginning to look a lot like…a hot summer. (What, did you think I’d say Christmas? This is one of the hottest Mays on record!) Normally I’d brew up a big pitcher of iced tea — and I still might — but today I decided to try Zoomdweebie’s Christmas Cookie White Tea.

This brew smells strongly of those vanilla spice cookies that you get around the holidays, and it lends itself really well to the delicate white tea base. Next experiment: try this tea with some actual Christmas cookies!

Episode 150: Kashmiri Pink Tea

I’m drinking two chai teas in a row this week, but I’ve got to say…these two are remarkably different. This tea goes by many names (noon chai, Kashmiri tea, pink tea, etc.), but you can find it most commonly referred to as Kashmiri pink tea.

If these HUGE leaves look familiar, that’s because this is green tea. Traditionally, Kashmiri pink tea is prepared with baking soda, milk, salt, cardamom, and crushed almonds and pistachios for garnishing. The special preparation method is what produces the pink color, and it has a salty, nutty flavor that is very savory and will warm you from the inside out.

It’s a bit of an acquired taste — and I have not acquired it — but I wanted to switch things up a bit for this 150th episode.
